| 3. Growth in Mungret Region
The vast majority of the Mungret
Regional FC membership lives in the Southern Environs District,
which lies in Limerick County within the Environs of Limerick
City. More specifically, the members reside mainly in the Raheen,
Dooradoyle, Gouldavoher and village of Mungret (and the townlands
within). However the catchment does extend further west to include
Ballybrown and Clarina, and south to Crecora and even as far as
Patrickswell.
The Environs of Limerick City is the major growth area of the
Mid-West Region and is likely to remain so for some time to come.
The Environs of Limerick is experiencing a continuing urbanisation
trend.
One of the main changes in the
1997 Revised Southern Environs Draft Development Plan from the
previous 1991 plan was the extension of the Gouldavoher Residential
District West into Mungret, including the lands of Mungret College
(77 acres).
Population projections indicate that the population of the Southern
Environs district may grow by as much as 40% during the period
1996 to 2016, from 10,600 to 15,000.
The demand for Sport and Leisure
facilities is growing accordingly.
Anticipated Growth in Membership
Based on the high rate of membership
at the younger age levels, in due course there will be greater
numbers participating at the older age groups. In 2 to 3 years
time it is expected that the number of teams run by the Club will
be as follows:
